 Project Vision

The Problem

Learning is truly a lifelong process and now more than ever with multiple channels for learning and constant evolution in multiple subject areas and career fields, people are seeking ways to continue their education beyond what is popularly known as the formative years. Well into adulthood, many continue to explore educational options and thrive on learning in environments that are convenient, easy to navigate and easy to master at their own pace.

Target Audience

​Working adults who are looking to learn college-level subjects at their own pace.

​Goal

Design a platform inclusive of a mobile app and website, to tutor adults in college-level subjects.

​Timeline

July 2021-November 2021

​Product

Learning for Life is an online hub providing opportunities for adults to continue learning college-level subjects at their own pace on their own schedule.

 Research Insights

Interviews were conducted and empathy maps created in order to understand the needs of the primary user group identified.

 90% of study participants stated that their work schedules and obligations were preventing them from going back to school.

More than 75% of study participants pain points - finances, confirmed the initial assumption that users want affordable alternatives to continue their education.

70% of study participants want to be able to share their achievements.

​Starting the Design

A sitemap was created to guide the structure and navigational flow of Learning for Life

Screen designs were made to focus on the users main needs of browsing courses and signing up for courses.

A low-fidelity prototype was used to test the design in an unmoderated usability study with ten participants

Improvements were made to the design to enhance user experience based on the findings of the usability study

Takeaways

Learning for Life is helping users learn college-level subject they never thought they were qualified for in a time chosen by them at a pace they can manage.

Challenges

Finding diverse course material and credible information for a learning platform requires multiple legal steps.

Next Steps

Add more diversity to course offerings.

Final Thoughts - What I Learned?

People just want information in an easy to understand format with simple navigations. I learned the importance of honoring user needs and iterating on designs to ensure solutions to user needs.
